Moving to the cloud has offered many benefits such as cost saving, but the matter of data security still hold many parties from executing it. Private cloud is an alternative to overcome it.
The private cloud is where data is not stored on systems shared among multiple organisations, offering a more personalised service where the organisation retains greater control and security of the information.
“The important thing for us is that we went for the private cloud model rather than public, because we needed to be sure where our data was being stored and whether it was stored in an appropriate fashion,” explains Mr Wilde who is currently working on bringing Essex County Council to the cloud.
Telco behemoth PLDT joined forces with software titan Microsoft Philippines and Asia-based IT firm Dimension Data (formerly known as Datacraft) to offer the Managed Microsoft Solutions under the PLDT AppFarm Private Cloud Services portfolio.
Unlike the typical cloud computing setup where an on-demand service is hosted by a cloud provider in a remote data center, the new private cloud offering is hosted in a server residing in the client’s site.
This “private-cloud” approach, the companies said, will enable businesses to outsource their chosen Microsoft solutions on a turn-key arrangement, while ensuring complete data security and maintaining full control on the system located at their own premises.
